Peace One Day Patrons Programme
Patrons Programme Vision Statement
“To ensure that the Peace One Day organisation will always have an abundance of valuable contacts and funding solutions, and to make the POD Patrons Programme a world-class Patrons community and a model of best practice for other non-profits and charitable organisations worldwide.”
About the Peace One Day Patrons Programme
The POD Patrons are a group of committed individuals who ensure POD is able to focus on its goals and objectives by providing strategic and financial support. Each Patron makes an annual donation to assist in running POD’s central office and is vigilant for opportunities that would benefit the organisation.
POD Patrons also receive a series of exclusive benefits: facilitated networking, exclusive events, media and PR, introductions and “once in a lifetime” experiences, not to mention the enormous satisfaction that comes from being a part of this cause. We encourage our Patrons to be engaged in our work, adding their own creativity, skills and expertise to help grow the organisation and move us towards our objective.
Between the Corporate Sponsorship of POD’s campaigns, community support and the Patrons Programme, POD is able to build awareness for Peace Day, year on year.

Patron Case Study 1 – Steve Bolton

Steve Bolton
Founding Partner & Managing Director, Platinum Property Partners
President of the Peace One Day Patrons Programme

Steve Bolton – How did you get involved with Peace One Day?
I was introduced by a business partner who showed me the video on the homepage of the Peace One Day website. We were both inspired by Jeremy’s journey and the far reaching impact of what had been achieved.
My business partners and I agreed to take a box at the Peace One Day Concert on 21st September 2008 and we attended this inspiring event. After this I was invited to the Patrons dinner where I spoke to Jeremy Gilley. We then arranged for Jeremy to come to speak at one of our client training events and we raised some money at the end of this event. The audience were inspired and they gave generously. Since then I have been supporting POD in growing its Patrons programme to help the organisation cover its operating costs and be fully funded so it can expand.
What was it about Peace One Day that inspired you?
There were several things that resonated with me:
1. I completely understood what Jeremy was saying about how we grow up seeing scenes of aggression, war and hate and not being able to understand why so many people just can’t get along. As a parent of four children, I found it became even harder to explain this to my kids. I wanted to get actively involved in doing something to support the process of peace. I wasn’t sure what or how at the time but a good first step was to find out more about Peace One Day and then ask “How can I help?”
2. The fact that Peace Day happens every year on 21st September means that it has longevity. It will be a legacy that
can grow and go on, year after year after year. I find that having this certainty and a very clear focus for one day every year is very reassuring because it means that I am supporting an organisation that will be here for the long term and not here today and gone tomorrow.
3. The sheer impact of what has been achieved to date is incredible. I want to know if that I invest money, time,
resources and energy into something, that this will produce a significant return. POD in my eyes has already achieved so much in such a short time-frame that I am genuinely excited to see what can be achieved with more financial and other resources moving forward. Over 100 million people participated on Peace Day in 2007 and over 4 million children have been immunised against polio in Afghanistan due to Peace Day agreements there, which POD was instrumental in bringing about. These results are staggering but they are only a small part of what POD has achieved. I want to play a part in the POD legacy and know that I helped to take it to the next level.
4. Having heard Jeremy speak at the Patrons dinners, at the Royal Albert Hall and having met him personally, I find
that he is an inspirational guy. What he and his team have achieved, on a very limited budget, and having overcome
so many set-backs on the way, is truly inspiring. It is rare to meet people like Jeremy and organisations like Peace
One Day in today’s world. Their can-do attitude rubs off on all that are close to them and it has certainly had a positive impact in helping me see what can be achieved if you really put your mind to it. As the old saying goes “don’t ever believe that a small group of like-minded and committed individuals cannot change the world, because it is the only thing that ever has”.
5. From a personal and business perspective, I am a great believer that who you know is as important, if not more so, than what you know. Networking and getting to know other Peace One Day patrons has been of benefit to me. I know that I am meeting new people that share an interest in making a difference and not just growing their businesses or their careers purely for financial gain. It is often hard to find other like-minded people who share this giving back approach to life.
6. I am a great believer in the age old principle that what you give comes back to you ten-fold. My Partners and I
choose to give at least 10% of all profits we make to not for profit and charitable causes. Whilst many people choose to keep their giving private, we do not. This is because one of our goals is not just to give but to encourage others to do the same and we find that they are more likely to do so if we openly share what we do and how we do it.
How do you see your future involvement as a POD Patron?
I believe that every person should support and assist in the ways that are right for them and add value to the organisation. What I like about POD is that there is no fixed formula of how people can support, but a range of suggestions and ideas. For me personally here is where I believe I can add value:
1. Donate money on a regular basis from the profits from our companies (it can be very tax effective to do this also
BTW).
2. Continue to use my contacts and their contacts to get new potential Patrons and corporate sponsors involved and help move them to action.
3. Provide gift items for POD auctions and fund raising events.
4.Continue to invite POD to selected events with our clients where Jeremy comes to speak and we do on-the-night fundraising.
5. Attend Peace One Day’s concerts and encourage others I know to attend at least one.
6. To support Stephen Stokes, the Director of Fundraising for POD, in exceeding the financial targets from the Patrons programme in 2010 and beyond.
7. To seriously consider anything that I am asked to assist with by Stephen and Jeremy.
8. To help expand a very loyal, effective and committed group of Patrons who use their considerable knowledge, skills, wealth, contacts and other resources to help fulfil the POD Patrons’ vision.
Patron Case Study 2 – Guillaume Rambourg

Patron fund-raising
Peace One Day is delighted to report that Guillaume Rambourg, our number one Patron, managed to complete this year's London Marathon in 3 hours 11 minutes. He finished with a top 5% place (1,764th out of 36,000 runners), at an average speed of 13.26 km/h, which was well beyond his wildest expectations and smashing his personal best time by an astonishing 12 minutes.
In Guillaume's own words: "For the first time in my short marathon career, I managed to both avoid the wall, and produce a negative split (1h 36 + 1h 35). I guess my form on the day was very good, but it's also fair to say that the organisation of the event was spot on, the weather conditions were pretty much optimal (16 degrees with a fresh breeze), and the crowd support was truly uplifting. It was like a Carlsberg advert for marathon running...
"I promised myself to never run a marathon again, on Saturday night when I was struggling to get some sleep ahead of the big race, but yesterday was so exhilarating that I might just have another go. Possibly Boston next April, as I now have a qualifying time!"
Jeremy Gilley, Peace One Day's founder, said today, "I am incredibly grateful to Guillaume and all his supporters for their incredible generosity over the last few weeks. Thanks to Guillaume's efforts he has raised a substantial sum that will make a big difference to Peace One Day this year. You are a star Guillaume!"
Guillaume has received so much help recently and would love to thank the following people:
"I'd like to salute a few people in particular, who have really helped me achieve this. First a mention to marathon 'veteran' Alex Dumortier, whose advice was very useful. Special thanks to Mick, who taught me that working on my glutes and core was so crucial, and believed in me all the way. I am also indebted to Nick Potter, who miraculously cured a blister in my right foot, a mere 48 hours before the race (God bless surgical spirit!). Many thanks to the pasta providers in my last week of preparation: Dorothee & Erwan, San Lorenzo, Ottoemezzo. A mention also to Katie, thanks to who every male at work insisted that I could not let myself be taken over by a female colleague (brutes!!!). Special thanks to Geoff, Ursula and James for shouting my name on the day. And thank you Robin, for collecting me at the end, and driving me home. Finally, thank you Olfa for your unrelenting support, and patience in putting up with my resolutely obsessional marathon drivel..."
Thank you, Guillaume
Guillaume also ran in the 20 Kilometres de Paris in support of Peace One Day. Almost 21,000 runners took part and Guillaume achieved not only a place in the top 5% but also achieved a personal best of 1:25:21. That’s an average of 14.06km/h. Follow this link to see Guillaume in action.

Guillaume was kind enough to come to the Peace One Day office to present Jeremy Gilley with the cheques from his generous sponsors. We would like to thank Guillaume, Olfa and all the family for all their efforts, as well as all Guillaume's sponsors from across the world for their most generous donations.
