My Take On Peace YouTube Video Contest
MAKE A FILM AND MAKE HISTORY ON PEACE DAY
Filmmaker and founder of Peace One Day Jeremy Gilley launches international video contest on YouTube's Video For Change platform
Peace One Day announces the launch of the ‘My Take On Peace' video contest, which asks citizens in the United States and United Kingdom to upload a video to www.youtube.com/peaceoneday about how they will create peace on September 21, Peace Day. The contest will operate on the YouTube Video For Change platform, which leverages the reach of the video-sharing site to spotlight pressing social causes that are important to YouTube's nonprofit partners and users.
Three finalists will be selected by Peace One Day's panel of judges. YouTube users will then vote for the winner by logging onto www.youtube.com/peaceoneday.
The winner will receive a state-of-the-art HD camera and will spend a day learning the art of documentary filmmaking with Jeremy Gilley, whose film The Day After Peace documents his efforts to persuade the United Nations member states to adopt the 21st of September as Peace Day.
"I've always believed that film and video are media for peace, that they can be used to inspire others to create change and to make history, rather than simply recording it," says Gilley "In this, our 10th anniversary year, we're very excited to be partnering with YouTube to ensure that video plays a vital role in spreading the message of Peace Day."
"In the past, we've seen YouTube users stand up for peace in creative ways, from performing original songs to creating thousand-person peace signs," says Steve Grove, YouTube Head of News & Politics. "We hope that the "My Take on Peace" video contest will encourage many more citizens to use video to depict how they're making peace on September 21."
